Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Every knows that Chiropractic helps Low Back and Neck pain, what else can it help with?

Doctors of Chiropractic effectively treat headaches, neck problems, shoulder, elbow, and wrist problems. Hip, knee, ankle and foot conditions also respond well to chiropractic manipulative therapy. Sports of all kinds see improved performance with care.

Chiropractic is a biomechanical and musculoskeletal approach to allowing the human body to heal and function in this gravitational field.

2. What is the popping/cracking sound?

Actually, not all adjusting techniques produce the sound associated with "popping knuckles." Some create no sound at all, some a little or a lot.   Many techniques, however, do create the sound of a joint "release." What causes it? The mystery may have been solved by a British research team.  It is gas that is in the synovial sac and "pops" after a pressure change around the joint space.

3. Can my sports performace be helped with chiropractic?

If professional athetics such as Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, Joe Montana, Roger Craig, and scores of other sports professionals. These athletes have found that using Chiropractic is a helpful tool to get the job done well. It can make a significant difference if you are not biomechanically sound, it can help you recover faster- if you seek treatment right after injuries and not just think it will get better.

4. How does massage in with Chiropractic care?

Massage works in conjunction with Chiropractic to allow for greater ease of adjustment and increasing vascular and lymphatic flows to clear the body and relax the muscles allowing enhanced treatments.

Some chiropractors will perform therapeutic soft tissue release using their hands.  In general chiropractors do not perform general massage.

Massage and physical therapy deal directly with only the soft tissues of the body, i.e. the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Chiropractic deals with the hard and soft tissues of the body, i.e. the bones as well as the muscles, tendons and ligaments.  Others will do it with different physical therapy methods such as electric muscle stimulation and/or ultrasound. Chiropractors will treat the hard tissues( bones and joints) by means of the chiropractic adjustment.

Chiropractors are licensed in California to administer physiotherapy.

5.  I might have carpal tunnel syndrome. Should I see a Chiropractor?

The average person does not know how to determine if they truly have carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). There are various possible causes of CTS and they must be determined and a treatment plan established to address the causes. The Chiropractor is well qualified to diagnose and treat many forms (causes) of CTS. If it is not treatable by chiropractic then a referral will be provided.

6. What can help prevent back injuries ?

Most injuries can be minimized with proper planning before lifting heavy objects and doing repetitive activites. Keeping your body in tone with core muscle strength will help. Eexercises consisting of coordinated muscle strengthening exercises and preventive stretching exercises before activity can keep motion balanced, reducing abnormal joint and muscle stress and strain.

7. Here are some ways you can get faster relief and better results from your chiropractic care:
  • GET INVOLVED
Patients who get involved and assume personal responsibility for recovering their health, seem to get the best results.
  • KEEP YOUR APPOINTMENTS
The way to achieve the results millions of chiropractic patients have enjoyed is to keep your appointment.
  • STRENGTHEN YOUR CORE MUSCLES & SPINE
Your doctor may suggest specific exercises to help speed your recovery.  These can help retrain muscles that support your core and spine.
  • LIFT WITH YOUR LEGS
Improper lifting can invite a relapse.  Keep your back straight and the load close to your body as your lift with your legs.
  • AVOID EXTREME BENDING
Use caution when bending or working overhead.  Avoid sudden twists and turns.
  • GET ADEQUATE REST
Proper rest is an important aspect of the healing process.  Use a mattress that offers firm support, and avoid sleeping on your stomach.
  • WATCH YOUR DIET
During the healing process proper nutrition is more important than ever.
  • ASK QUESTIONS
Proper spinal health is new for most people.  The better you understand your condition, the faster your recovery.
  • REFER OTHERS
Share your chiropractic experience with others.  Explain the relationship between proper spinal function and nervous system function-the key to health.
